Music
has always been a major aspect in the mind of dj Lynx. Encouraged
by his parents to pursue his musical interests, dj Lynx dove into
the musical world head first about the age of 8. His parents, took
notice of this and bought him his first keyboard which then opened
a world before he could have only imagined. Actually what really
happened was he went through numerous piano lessons before realizing
this was not at all what he was expecting. Not having the patience
as a kid, dj Lynx was more prone to just banging on the instrument
rather than take the time to read and study the basic skills. (note:
today Lynx wishes he would have stayed with his lessons but when
your a kid your a kid). So at around the age of 10 or so, dj Lynx
found himself always fascinated with the new musical beats that
were coming across one of the local radio stations late at night.
He noticed that alot of the music was similar to the beats he was
trying to make on his keyboard. Early Hip-hop was in full effect
and at this point dj Lynx found himself glued to the speakers amazed
at the large bass tones and interesting samples overlaping funny
lyrics. Several artists began to develop more indepth tracks and
dj Lynx to this day still finds there work exceptional. Artists
such as LL cool J, Mc Lyte, Special-Ed, Public Enemy, 3rd bass,
Run-DMC, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B & Rakim, EPMD, and many more.
Taking
his interest further into his teenage years, dj Lynx finally was
able to save a little cash and went out and bought a dual cassette
deck and several blank tapes. What he enjoyed most about Hip-Hop
was the beat behind the lyrics. So many to chose from and he had
so many ideas in his head all stemming from wanting to create something
of his own. Everynight he would spend recording off the Radio the
freshest tracks that were hot, however he would then take the lyrics
out and try to loop the beats for he wanted to extend the track
and keep the beat going without the lyrics. Numerous tapes were
made with nothing but fresh beats, however they were not exactly
perfect. Several areas were choppy and bits of voices were not edited
out but overall the idea was perfect.
At
this point in highschool dj Lynx was becoming bored with all of
his little beat tapes that were laying around and wanted to take
his interest to the next level but didn't know how. Then one night
while out with his friends at a local nightclub the idea hit him.
He noticed something that was happening in the club that he didn't
realize before. The center of the club always focused on the dj.
That's what he needed to do, he wanted to become a dj. Today dj
Lynx gives credit for the man who answered alot of his questions
and was amazed right away at his talent and that is dj ROYAL-T.
Week-end after week-end was now spent on going out and watching
any dj at any club which he went to. The dj was always behing the
crowd or behind the talent scratching a record. Scratching was what
really brought dj Lynx to try dj'ing. He was totally amazed at how
the turntable could produce a sound like no other instrument could.
Finally mowing lawns, feeding cows doing whatever he did to save
his money, dj Lynx went out and not knowing anything about dj'ing
bought a small stiff crossfader mixer from Radio Shack. He also
managed to come across a belt drive turntable. Only having one turntable
dj Lynx never learned right away how to match beats or use a beat
meter. However dj Lynx was able to learn and teach himself how to
scratch. Hours after school would be spent on one turntable just
cutting and scratching to match what all the club and radio dj's
were doing. Late night mix sessions at this time were a sure thing
to record on a new station in the area called 92.3FM or 92Q. Furthering
his interest to the fullest, dj Lynx would go out and talk to as
many local dj's as he could. Watching them and learn what to do
and what not to do. He would always pay attention to detail and
to this day still watches other dj's and always finds that he learns
something whether it be good or bad there is always something to
learn know matter how good or bad the dj is.
Dj
Lynx believes that music must always come from the heart first.
You can look at any artist in there field of music, Rock, Rap, Metal,
Country, Classical or whatever but when the lights go down and the
bass hits and the people start to cheer there is magic which takes
place you can count on that. You get that rush of adrenalin, chills
go up your spine and then your ready to go. When you get that feeling
you just know your doing this from the heart and it doesn't get
any better than that. You may have had the chance somewhere to check
out dj Lynx in the past, however if you have not, let him know and
I'm sure he will be near a local nightclub near you or can send
you a cd sometime in the near future.
Please
feel free to drop in and say hello with any comments or questions
which you may have.
